Side Volley Distribution

A low-trajectory, high-velocity side-kick distribution method used to deliver flat, fast passes across the field for rapid counter-attacks. The side volley stays under opponent head height, making it easier for teammates to control on the run.

  1. Body Orientation: Orient your body at roughly a 45° angle to your intended target line, establishing a balanced side-on posture.
  2. The Drop: Release the ball slightly out to your kicking side at hip level, timing the drop so it meets your foot cleanly.
  3. Hip Rotation & Swing: Sweep your kicking leg horizontally across your body with an open hip and a locked ankle.
  4. The Strike: Strike the ball squarely on the instep with a lateral leg swing to keep the trajectory flat, fast, and low.

Common Corrections

Targeted Fixes: Correct common technical breakdowns immediately.

Striking Under the Ball: Hitting underneath causes the ball to balloon high into the air, giving defenders time to intercept. Enforce an instep strike across the middle.

Facing Forward: Striking like a standard punt ruins the sideways angle and eliminates flat trajectory control. Cue open the hips, stay side-on.

Floppy Ankle: A loose ankle causes the ball to spray wide or squib off the foot. Ensure a rigidly locked ankle upon contact.
