Overhand Throw Distribution

A powerful medium-to-long distance distribution method used to bypass pressing attackers and instantly spark counter-attacks. The overhand throw combines accuracy with high velocity, allowing goalkeepers to target players breaking down the flanks.

  1. Grip & Stance: Cup the ball firmly in your dominant hand with fingers spread wide; turn your non-throwing shoulder toward your intended target.
  2. Wind-Up: Wind the ball back behind your head, flexing the elbow to roughly a 90° angle while shifting weight onto your back foot.
  3. Kinetic Chain & Step: Step forcefully forward onto your lead foot, uncoiling your hips and torso to generate rotational power from the ground up.
  4. Whip & Release: Whip your throwing arm over your shoulder with a sharp wrist snap, driving the ball on a flat, low-trajectory line to your teammate.

Common Corrections

Targeted Fixes: Correct common throwing breakdowns immediately.

Lofting the Ball: Throwing upward like a basketball arc gives defenders time to intercept. Enforce a flat, driven trajectory.

Lack of Body Rotation: Throwing solely with arm strength limits distance and stresses the shoulder. Cue rotate the hips.

Stepping with Wrong Foot: Stepping with the same-side foot blocks power generation. Ensure a clean step with the opposite foot.
