1v1, Aerial & Distribution

Distribution and box control progress from simple underhand rolls and short passes to complex 1v1 block shapes and full-field playmaking. The matrix below outlines when each technical and tactical action becomes a developmental priority.

6-9 Yrs: Short Distribution & Tracking

Core Focus: Underhand rolls, short inside-foot passes, and basic ground tracking.

Building Confidence: Establish early comfort with using hands and feet close to the goal line. Emphasize simple verbal cues like “keeper’s ball” to encourage basic communication with defenders.

9-12 Yrs: Box Control & Transition

Core Focus: Sling throws, structured punts, K-Block shapes, and high ball claims.

The 9v9 Shift: As the field expands, introduce the K-Block (expanding surface area defensively while staying balanced) and contour catching on flighted crosses. Train goalkeepers to recognize when to distribute wide vs. central.

12-14 Yrs: Physical Contact & Playmaking

Core Focus: Sliding smothers, aerial punching, and advanced side-volley distribution.

11v11 Mastery: Full-field tactical immersion requires high-velocity driven passes and calculated risk-taking in 1v1 breakaway scenarios. Prioritize timing and body protection during sliding challenges to minimize collision trauma.
