Foot Position & Stance

The stance and footwork alignment provide the dynamic balance required for explosive movement. Mastering foot position optimizes weight distribution and reaction time for immediate lateral mobility.

  1. Base Width: Set feet shoulder-width to slightly wider, creating a stable, balanced foundation without locking the hip joints.
  2. Knee Flexion: Maintain a soft bend in the knees to keep the center of gravity low and ready for immediate lateral push-off.
  3. Weight Distribution: Load the metatarsals (balls of the feet) so the heels hover lightly off the turf.
  4. Set Timing (Split Step): Execute a micro-bounce timing adjustment just as the shooter strikes the ball to absorb and reload kinetic energy.
  5. Toe Alignment: Point toes toward the ball line to ensure instant forward or diagonal movement mechanics.

Verbal Cues

Instant Field Triggers: Use short, rhythmic phrases during practice sessions to instill proper habits.

Light on toes | Set on the strike | Push off the back foot

Common Corrections

Targeted Fixes: Address mechanical breakdowns immediately before they become ingrained habits.

Flat-Footed / Heel Heavy: Correct backward falling and delayed lateral response by forcing heel lift.

Stance Too Wide: Fix trapped or locked movement by narrowing the base back to shoulder width.
